The addition of an extension at the rear of Kurt and Jenny’s converted church building was an exciting project to undertake.
Whilst keeping cool in summer is a dream, due to the nature of the extremely high gable ceilings and large amounts of thermal mass, heating the church in cold Beechworth winters is not at all economic.
Kurt and Jenny’s answer to this was to effectively build a winter retreat from the rear of the church. Keeping in line with strict heritage rulings, we managed to construct a single bedroom with ensuite and open robe and open kitchen/dining/living space. All this was done using as much timber as possible on Kurt’s request – his Swiss heritage showing through.
The result is a cosy (and warm) sun-lit retreat with decks keeping views to Mt Buffalo and beyond.
